Let me start this off by saying that it’s good to finally have the time to write here on my second favorite blog. It’s been a while, man, it’s been a while. I’ve been busy the past couple of months what with the writing and, well, writing about the geek shit is cool, but getting paid is also pretty nice. Next, allow me to state that I loved Madagascar 2. I even saw it twice. it was funny, and not just funny funny, but fun funny, you know? Of course you do. Also, one should note that I’m not a homophobe. I would like to state that. I have a lot of gay friends. And as I may have said before, all of my best friends are gay. They just don’t know it yet.

Now all that’s out of the way, I leave you with one final warning before you proceed reading this definitely god awful post. SPOILER ALERT!

Great Expectations

Every NBA season from the last four years, we have been treated with blind predictions from basketball experts stating the following:

Yao Ming,Tracy McGrady,Houston Rockets,Mike James,Steve Francis, NBA, Ron ArtestTracy McGrady will finally end his first-round playoff misfortunes this year.”

“Both McGrady and Yao Ming will be the next best tandem in the NBA, provided that both players stay healthy come playoff time.”

“With the addition of (Bonzi Wells, Mike James, Steve Francis), the Rockets find themselves in the thick of things as contenders for the NBA title.”

Despite all the acclamation attributing to the great off-seasons by the Houston Rockets the past couple of years, it still remains a question why the team still sucks. Sure, they have one-two punch in Yao and McGrady, a nightmare tandem that currently ranks among the best in the league, while the acquisition of sixth men and key players who appear more than fit to contribute to the team concept. Still, the issue remains why the Rockets, despite all the talent in the world, fail to meet the expectations that they were supposed to meet years ago, which is to simply get past the first round. Their stream of first-round exits has stunted the growth of the team, but for some reason, they never fail to gain attention as front-runners for the NBA title ever goddamn year.

Abracadabra!

There’s nothing magical about how Orlando coasted through a 52-win record last season, which also saw the transformation of Dwight Howard into a perennial MVP candidate and the stellar performances of surrounding cast Hedo Turkoglu, Rashard Lewis, and Jameer Nelson. Orchestrated by Stan Van Gundy’s focus on defense and spreading the floor in offense, the team bulldozed its way to the upper echelon in the East, granting them their first playoff advance after 10 years against the Raptors. Their defeat from the hands of the Pistons in the second round aside, there’s really nothing more that you can ask from a team with an average of 25 years of age and has yet to reach its peak.

Still, you can always hope that these guys deliver some tricks up their sleeves, mistakes and all.

First off, Dwight Howard needs to do more than just don a Superman outfit during the All-Star Weekend in order to be remembered. True, his participation and eventual win in the Slam Dunk Contest are perhaps his highlights for that year, but great players are remembered for what they did for their teams when the game was on the line. When around the basket and the ball in his hands, he is the most powerful since Shaq at his peak. However, like the Magic alumni, he has yet to fully utilize his skills more and avoid from relying too much with his strength in order to guide his team deeper into the playoffs. His offensive moves have become stale and predictable, and even if he gets his game going with his powerful and momentum-breaking slams, he can be subdued in the free throw line where he shot a little below 60 percent. As pundits would suggest, a consistent 12-15 jump shot and the ability to create plays for his teammates would make him an unstoppable force.

Rico Blanco - Making Another Chapter In OPM History

I guess you just can’t keep a geniuos off the spotlight - that or his fashion designing gig just didn’t work out. Either way, I’m glad Rico Blanco is back on the music scene.

I’ve always been a fan of his song writing. I don’t think there’s anyone out there worthy of being compared. Ely Buendia didn’t write like he used to. Dong Abay is still good but that’s another story. But with Rico’s departure from RiverMaya, it’s only normal for him to look for new bandmates.

If I’m not mistaken (and I do hope I’m NOT mistaken), I believe he had sought the help of Cynthia Alexander on bass and got that drummer from Sky Church (forgot his name). I would have never imagined these three playing as one unit. When I saw the video “Yugto“, I was speechless. All of them looked really good together.

As for the song itself, it was interesting. There’s a touch of Coldplay in there somewhere. A hint of Kula Shaker too. But I’m no music expert so fuck my thoughts. All I know is that I like them playing together.

Now, if they could only come up with a band name. I don’t think it’s proper to use “Rico Blanco” as the name of your group knowing that you have two other music icons in there.

Jeanne D’Arc And My Opinion Of It

I rarely talk about video games despite playing a good number of them over the past 6 months or so. But this game slapped me in the face so many times with it’s ridiculous story, incredibly hard-to-beat enemies and irritating characters that it made itself blog worthy. There are some spoilers here by the way.

Ladies and getlemen, I present to you Jeanne D’Arc - a tactical role playing game for the PSP.

Why does the game’s title sounds so much like Joan Of Arc? Is it a mere coincidence? No. The game is based on the life of Joan Of Arc. Only Level-5, the game’s developer, decided to add magical armlets, goblins, demons and whatnot in the mix. I have to admit, the game’s story is a nice twist to the whole Joan Of Arc tale.
